when I look at Device Manager I see that I have 2 ultra ATA storage controllers listed rather than anything SATA or RAID. Is this likely to slow down the performance of the HDD? Is there any way to change it to SATA without reinstalling the OS?

By alot i mean it took our quad core xeon 3 ghz with 4 gbyte memory and 4 SAS drives in 1+0 RAID, about a day and a half to process (on disk). ..... 4) Is your motherboard set to use AHCI for the SATA (ICH7) controller? There's reports that SATA300 is only available/used on some controllers when AHCI is used.
